SAFETY PROGRAMS

Here is a summary of some of the key safety programs and plans that should exist for any residential concrete construction company.


1. SAFETY PLAN


Covers entire safety program for the company – includes policy, responsibilities, accountability, PPE, medical control program, fleet program etc.


2. AFFIRMATIVE ACTION PLAN


Covers EEO, Sexual Harassment, Complaint Procedure.


3. ALCOHOL & DRUG FREE WORKPLACE POLICY


Alcohol or drugs are grounds for instant dismissal. Drug testing as required by owner.


4. ASSURED GROUNDING PROGRAM


All information on how to conduct the program, how to mark cords etc. what colors for what months. Also covers GFI program. GFI’s are the program of choice; we will do the assured grounding as well if required by owner.


6. CONFINED SPACE ENTRY PROGRAM


Covers definitions of confined spaces, what testing, equipment etc. is needed for each type of confined space. Rescue operations, certifications.


7. ELECTRICAL SAFETY PROGRAM


Covers all aspects of electrical safety as contained in the OSHA regs.


8. EXCAVATION AND TRENCHING PROGRAM


Information on trenching, soils, barricades, trench edges, regulations.


9. FALL PROTECTION


Definitions of areas requiring fall protection, description of equipment to be used. Alternative Methods, new OSHA regulation.


10. HAND PROTECTION PROGRAM


Describes different types of gloves to be used for specific hazards and when they should be worn, training and documentation.


11. HAZARD COMMUNICATION PROGRAM


Discusses what the program is, what is covers, MSDS’s training, certification, labeling.


12. HEARING CONSERVATION PROGRAM


Covers when hearing protection is required to be worn, types of protection, decibel levels, baseline testing.


13. LOCKOUT/TAGOUT PROCEDURES


Covers when it is to be used, how it is to be used, what types of locks and tags are to be used.


14. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT PROGRAM


Covers what type of PPE is required by the company, when it is to be worn, how is to be taken care of, who provides, training, certification, site hazard assessment.


15. PROCESS SAFETY MANAGEMENT


Details compliance with the Process Safety Management Standard, responsibilities of client and SCW training.


16. RESPIRATORY PROTECTION PROGRAM


Cover different types of equipment, when to be worn, how to be cared for.


17. TOXIC GASES PROGRAM


Discusses hazards of airborne contaminants, types of contaminants, protective devices, respirator information, first aid measures precautions to be taken. Gases covered are Benzene, Carbon Monoxide, Hydrogen Chloride, Lead, Sulfur Dioxide.


18. WELDING PROGRAM


Equipment to be used, safety equipment to be used, storage, proper use, handling, precautions.
